The Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in partnership with Guttmacher Institute, took a closer look at new evidence on sexual and reproductive health and rights and discussed the advancements, challenges and data underscoring the state of sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide.
COVID-19 has already resulted in devastating impacts for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) worldwide. Globally, millions are at risk of losing access to essential services and the pandemic threatens to undermine progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal of Universal Health Coverage. Access to comprehensive SRHR must be a foundation for solutions going forward in order to achieve this goal by 2030. In 2020, the Guttmacher Institute launched three bodies of work highlighting new research on the critical importance of investing in SRHR, the state of unintended pregnancy and abortion worldwide, and impacts of the United States’ expanded Mexico City Policy, also known as the “Global Gag Rule.”
