Dear colleagues:
I am so happy to be writing to you for the first time as FP2030’s Executive Director! I have been so warmly welcomed by this global community and am excited about the new partnership we will be building together. Thank you.
I hope by now you have seen our online event to launch our new partnership. It was a pleasure to hear so many champions of family planning announce their commitments and talk about how we will sustain and grow family planning in the next decade. The FP2020 partnership drove remarkable progress, as the number of women and girls using modern contraception grew by 60 million since FP2020 was founded in 2012. As we look ahead, we have an opportunity to ask ourselves: Who is being left behind in this progress, and are we measuring everything we need to measure? How do we make this partnership impactful and more inclusive?
We will measure our progress toward this objective with the FP2030 Measurement Framework, which has been updated and expanded. At your own pace, you can see the new analysis this framework yields in our 2021 Measurement Report. This new report contains regional analyses, an important element in our regionalization strategy, as well as new information on contraceptive use during the COVID-19 pandemic. An important angle is the impact of the pandemic on family planning financing, given the importance of resourcing this agenda. We know this narrative is still taking shape, but this early analysis yields important lessons to shape policy and programs in the year ahead.
One of the ways we reach further is to support youth leadership and youth-led organizations in deliberate and equitable partnerships. We are proud to work with the International Youth Alliance for Family Planning (IYAFP) and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH) in advocating within the family planning community for the Global Consensus Statement for Meaningful Adolescent and Youth Engagement, signed by 250 organizations. Together we have just released a report on the progress made toward ensuring that young leaders are engaged as true partners.
I am so energized by the work that this community is doing — and yet, this is just the tip of the iceberg! I look forward to traveling this path with you and having the chance to meet you along the way. For those taking a break this period, I hope you come back energized for a full year, as we work toward a world where women and girls everywhere have the freedom and ability to lead healthy lives.
All the best,
Dr. Samukeliso Dube

FP2030 Measurement Report 2021 |
As FP2020 transitions to FP2030, the goals of the partnership remain ambitious, a future where women and girls everywhere have the freedom and ability to lead healthy lives, make their own informed decisions about using contraception and having children, and participate as equals in society and its development. As countries and partners make commitments to support voluntary modern contraceptive use by everyone who wants it, assessing progress by reviewing annual country-specific data will remain tremendously important.
Building on the successes of FP2020’s measurement work, we are happy to release our first FP2030 Progress Report for 2020-2021. The report includes family planning data from 82 low and low-middle income countries (including several new indicators as agreed to in the updated FP2030 measurement framework). The 2020-2021 Progress Report also reviews available data on the impact of COVID-19 on family planning commodities, services, contraceptive use, and financing. As always, the measurement report and additional data resources, including full estimate tables, country data sheets, and more are available on the FP2030 Data Hub. Read the report now. |

Updated HIP Brief on Family Planning and Immunization Integration |
The integration of family planning with immunization during the extended postpartum period is critical to promoting both maternal and child health. Globally, immunizations are one of the most widely used healthcare practices: in the last decade, more than a billion children received vaccinations. Data shows that in many low- to middle-income countries, many women have unmet need for contraception during the postpartum period. As a result, mothers may have consecutive unplanned births in rapid succession, despite recommended spacing intervals. This presents an opportunity for family planning providers. Read more. |

Youth partners: You can now sign on alongside more than 30 youth-led organizations to collectively encourage donors and NGOs to work with youth more intentionally, and anonymously recommend and provide feedback to specific donors and NGOs.
New analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation found donor government support for global family planning efforts totaled US$1.40 billion in 2020, a decline of US$114 million compared to last year’s level of US$1.52 billion. This decline in donor funding was largely due to the decreased funding from the UK, family planning’s second largest donor after the US.
