Kyrgyz Republic Takes Steps in Implementing Family Planning Commitments

Bishkek,06 August 2024 – The Kyrgyz Republic took a major step toward fulfilling its FP2030 commitment through a critical event, held in Bishkek on August 5-6, 2024. The event’s participants focused on finalizing a set of robust indicators to monitor the progress of Kyrgyzstan’s family planning role and create much more transparency and effectiveness in the implementation of our critical FP commitment.

The conference gathered, for the first time, the top domestic and international family planning experts such as Raisa Asylbasheva Beishenalievna, Chief Specialist of UOMPiLP at the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dakshitha Wickremaratne, Senior Technical Advisor Advocacy, Accountability and Partnerships from FP2030, Nurgul Smankulova, Specialist Sexual Reproductive Health Program United Nations Population Fund in the Kyrgyz Republic and Bozgorpoeva Baktygul, Director at the Kyrgyz Family Planning Alliance NGO. The work of these experts paved the way for the establishment of clear and measurable indicators that are crucial for accurate assessment of the progress made and making the needed adjustments in the policies and practices.

The event marked the conclusion of the three first steps of the accountability mechanism, followed by the conclusion of the identification of priority indicators. These steps created an essential ground to develop the indicators that looking forward would be used for monitoring and evaluation of progress in FP2030 commitments.

Along the lines of the FP2030 priorities, the Kyrgyz Republic has made five new commitments to bolster the family planning service. By 2030, the country will improve the quality of family planning services through the development and application of clinical protocols and guidelines. Pregnant and post-abortion women will be offered comprehensive postpartum and post-abortion counseling and voluntary contraceptives through the active promotion of private health facilities. The country also makes an assertive commitment to develop and enhance the visibility of supply chain management of contraceptives purchased from the state budget. By 2030, the indicator will ensure not only a physical guarantee of contraceptives to all territories but also an economic guarantee upon the implementation of digital technologies.

Since joining the global FP2030 movement in 2018, the Kyrgyz Republic has committed to accelerating its progress on family displayed right to ACP and reproductive choice for school citizens. The commitment spans 2019-2030 and comes with a concise action plan and budget along with an indicator package. The country’s regime on drugs and medicines has also been instrumental in reducing the barrier of putting modern contraceptives on the remission list.
